Brar brothers take over the Eagles from Westgard

The BC Hockey League announced on Wednesday that Ron and TJ Brar have taken over ownership of the Surrey Eagles from Chuck Westgard. The BCHL Board of Governors approved the sale this past weekend.

Westgard owned the Eagles for a dozen years, originally as part of a group and then on his own since 2014. In Westgard’s 12 years as Eagles’ owner, the team won the Fred Page Cup in 2013 and appeared in the BCHL playoffs seven times.

The Brar brothers are the owners and operators of Evergreen Herbs, which is a company that supplies fresh herbs and vegetables to grocery stores across Canada.

Terwood commits to Cranbrook for 2022-23

The Cranbrook Bucks announced the commitment of 2005-born defender Willem Terwoord for the 2022-23 BCHL season.

The Salmo, BC product spent 2021-22 with Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna U18 in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. In 32 games, he posted four goals and 19 points.

Spruce Kings name Cameron as captain for 2022-23

The Prince George Spruce Kings unveiled their captain for next season on Wednesday, and it was 2002-born defender Colton Cameron. The three-year veteran was slated to attend Bentley University to play NCAA hockey this fall but deferred his attendance to September 2023.

The Surrey, BC product has played 113 games for the Spruce Kings since 2019, posting three goals and 38 points. Cameron has also played 14 Fred Page Cup playoff games in his BCHL career.

Kursonis joins the Bulldogs for next season

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have signed 2004-born forward and College of the Holy Cross commit Matt Kursonis for the 2022-23 BCHL season.

The product of Worcester, MA had eight goals and 13 points in 21 games with the South Shore Kings 18U AAA Prep this past season. He also spent time playing US high school hockey at St. George’s in Middletown, RI.

Black out as Eagles’ assistant GM

Surrey assistant general manager Charlie Black took to social media on Wednesday to announce that he won’t be back to the Eagles for the 2022-23 season.

Black served in a number of roles for the Eagles during his time with the club, including public address announcer, anthem singer, deejay, administrative assistant, and accounts receivable manager, to name a few.

He is also currently the deejay and public address announcer for the Port Moody Panthers and Delta Ice Hawks of the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

Express add Garzone to its 2022-23 roster

The Coquitlam Express has brought in 2004-born forward Drew Garzone of Dover, MA for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season.

The Princeton University commit spent this past season with the South Shore Kings 18U AAA Prep and Deerfield Academy. In 22 games with the Kings, Garzone notched two goals and 11 points. He added five goals and 14 points in 21 games with Deerfield.

Wolford commits to University of Wisconsin Eau Claire

2001-born Trail Smoke Eaters forward Coalson Wolford has committed to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for this September.

Wolford, who’s from San Jose, CA, had a dozen goals and 32 points as captain of the Smoke Eaters during the 2021-22 season. He’s the 10th member of Trail’s roster to secure a post-secondary commitment.

Avalanche bring up Miska from the AHL

Goaltender Hunter Miska (53-21-5, 2.03 goals-against average, .924 save percentage, seven shutouts in 80 games with Penticton from 2013-15) was called up from the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League by the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old from Stacy, MN was 10-5 with a 3.04 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage in 17 games with the Eagles this past season. He also played two games with ECHL Utah, posting a 1-1-0 record alongside a 3.51 goals-against average and an .875 save percentage.

Supinski won’t return to next season

Collegeville, PA product Brett Supinski (48 goals, 50 assists in 58 games with Coquitlam in 2014-15) won’t be back with Västerviks IK next season, the club announced on Wednesday.

Supinski, a 26-year-old forward, posted 13 goals and 33 points in 41 games with Västerviks IK in the 2021-22 season, his first in Europe after two years in the ECHL. HockeyAllsvenskan is the second tier of pro hockey in Sweden.
