BCHL Bulletin: Bulldogs grab Vasko from Cranbrook, Getz heads to Boston University, and more!

Bucks deal Vasko to Alberni Valley

The Cranbrook Bucks and Alberni Valley hooked up on a Thursday trade that sees 2002-born forward AJ Vasko join the Bulldogs for future considerations.

Vasko, from La Salle, MB, posted three goals and eight points in 38 games with the Bucks in 2021-22. He also had a goal in six playoff games.

He put up five goals and nine points in 16 games for Cranbrook during its inaugural season in the Penticton pod in 2020-21.

Getz commits to Boston University

Chilliwack Chiefs defender Lachlan Getz, who was previously committed to Union College, has switched schools and will now attend Boston University this September.

The 2002-born native of Northfield, IL finished this past season with three goals and 22 points in 54 games with the Chiefs. He notched an assist in two games during the abbreviated 2020-21 season as a rookie.

Rivermen pick up Munroe from Truro

The Langley Rivermen added some scoring punch to their lineup with the acquisition of 2002-born forward Luke Munroe from the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Munroe hails from Kitchener, ON, and put up 23 goals and 46 points in 34 games with the Bearcats in 2021-22. He chipped in 13 points in 17 playoff games as well.

Sebastian goes to Green Bay of the USHL

2004-born forward Eli Sebastian won’t play for the Penticton Vees this season and will instead go to the US Hockey League to join the Green Bay Gamblers. The Vees previously announced his commitment in October 2021.

Sebastian, who hails from Burlington, ON, was at St. Andrew’s College prep school last season and posted 40 points in 44 games. The Northeastern University commit was selected by Green Bay in last month’s USHL Entry Draft.

Three BCHL recruits invited to Canada’s national U17 development camp

Hockey Canada unveiled the 100 players invited to its National Under-17 development camp on Thursday, and the list includes three players committed to BCHL teams for the 2022-23 season and two others who have played BCHL games thus far in their careers.

Forward Diego Buttazzoni (Langley, BC) is committed to the Coquitlam Express while forward Hiroki Gojsic (Langley, BC) and defender Gabriel Guilbault (Burnaby, BC) will each join Penticton in the fall. All three players are 2006-born.

Forwards Ollie Josephson of Victoria, BC (one goal in five games with Victoria in 2021-22) and Lynden Lakovic of Kelowna, BC (no points in two games with West Kelowna in 2021-22) are two other 2006-born players invited who have BCHL experience.

Both Josephson and Lakovic have signed Western Hockey League standard player agreements and played games for Red Deer and Moose Jaw, respectively.

Shaw signs with HC Innsbruck for 2022-23

Forward Brady Shaw (71 goals, 68 assists in 113 games with Penticton, Coquitlam, and Surrey from 2011-13) has signed with HC Innsbruck of the ICE Hockey League in Austria.

The native of Ottawa, ON had 17 goals and 36 points in 45 games with Fehérvár AV19 in Hungary during the 2021-22 season.

Combs takes his game to SønderjyskE for next season

Forward Charlie Combs (66 goals, 46 assists in 86 games with Wenatchee from 2015-17) has signed a contract with SønderjyskE of Denmark’s Metal Ligaen for this season.

Combs, a 25-year-old from St. Louis, MO, played with the Dundee Stars of the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League this past season, posting 30 goals and 65 points in 52 games.

Beck jumps to Stavanger for the 2022-23 season

32-year-old forward Colton Beck (76 goals, 78 assists in 162 games with Langley from 2007-10) has signed a contract for the 2022-23 season with the Stavanger Oilers of Norway’s Fjordkraft-ligaen.

The forward from Langley, BC had 13 goals and 33 points in 45 games with Dornbirner EC of the ICE Hockey League this season before joining Ilves of Liiga in Finland. He ended up with three points in seven games with Ilves.
