Nanaimo adds Kotylak from Calgary for Forfellow
The Nanaimo Clippers have acquired 2002-born forward Ben Kotylak from the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for 2002-born defenseman Owen Forfellow.
The deal represents a return to his home province for Kotylak as he hails from North Vancouver, BC. In 30 games this season with the Canucks, he posted eight goals and 13 points as a sophomore.
Forfellow, who’s from Abbotsford, BC, was acquired by Nanaimo from Penticton in October. He was scoreless in four games with the Clippers this season.
Andrew commits to Canisius College for September 2022
Powel River Kings forward Hunter Andrew has committed to Canisius College to play NCAA Division I hockey starting next September.
The Virden, MB product has six goals and 13 points in 20 games with the Kings this season. He split 2020-21 between Charlotte of the USPHL Premier League and his hometown Oil Capitals of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Andrew finished the season with four goals and eight assists in 11 games between the two leagues.
Clippers lose Johnston to OHL’s Ottawa 67’s
The Nanaimo Clippers have lost the services of 2001-born forward Alex Johnston after he signed with the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
The centre from Stittsville, ON had a goal and an assist in two games with the Clippers after being acquired from the Navan Grads of the Central Canada Hockey League on Nov. 24.
Johnston was with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds for the past three seasons, accumulating 19 goals and 42 points in 120 games.
Good commits to the University of Vermont
2002-born forward Dawson Good announced his commitment to the University of Vermont on Wednesday evening. The Chilliwack Chiefs forward from Abbotsford, BC is averaging a point-per-game this season with seven goals and 11 assists in 18 games.
He is set to head to the Catamounts in September 2022. Good has 13 goals and 31 points in 45 games for the Chiefs over the last four seasons, including as an affiliate player in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Murrells-Allaway affiliates with the Silverbacks
The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have added North Okanagan Knights goaltender Gabriel Murrells-Allaway as an affiliate player for the 2021-22 season.
The 2003-born netminder from Salmon Arm is 3-4-1 with a 2.97 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage in eight games in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League this season.
Lightning claim Nash off waivers from Winnipeg
Forward Riley Nash (38 goals, 46 assists in 56 games with Salmon Arm from 2006-07) was claimed on waivers by the Tampa Bay Lightning from the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
He signed a one-year contract worth $750,000 with Winnipeg on July 31. Nash, a 32-year-old from Consort, AB, was scoreless through 15 games with the Jets this season.
Shinkaruk signs a deal with the Iowa Heartlanders
30-year-old forward Carter Shinkaruk (25 goals, 35 assists in 173 games with Langley, Powell River, and Merritt from 2009-12) has signed a standard player contract with the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL and was added to their active roster.
The Langley, BC product has two goals and 13 points in 16 games with the Quad City Storm of the Southern Professional Hockey League this season.
