Newhook cracks Canada’s roster

Forward Alex Newhook (60 goals, 108 assists in 98 games with Victoria from 2017-19) was one of 25 players named to Canada’s roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
Newhook, 19, is a sophomore at Boston College this season after scoring 42 points in 34 games for the Eagles in 2019-20. His exploits earned him NCAA rookie of the year honours.
The St. John’s, Newfoundland product was a first-round pick, 16th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019 NHL Draft.
He is one of three NCAA players on Canada’s roster. Newhook and Team Canada open the World Juniors on Dec. 26 against Germany.

Brett Supinski (48 goals, 50 assists for Coquitlam in 2014-15) signed with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays for the 2020-21 season.
The 25-year-old forward from Collegeville, Pennsylvania had 19 goals and 19 assists in 41 ECHL games with the Idaho Steelheads in 2019-20.

Forward Mike Zalewski (50 goals, 54 assists in 106 games with Vernon from 2010-12) has signed with Kolner Haie of the DEL, which is the highest level of pro hockey in Germany.
Zalewski, 28, spent the 2019-20 season with the Vienna Capitals in Austria’s ICE Hockey League and had 33 points in 46 games. The New Hartford, New York product spent two seasons in the DEL from 2017-19 before signing with Vienna.
