BCHL Today: Vees add two more defensemen, Bulldogs sign forward Assam, and more

 

Vees bolster blueline depth

The Penticton Vees added two more pieces to their blueline on Monday with the signing of 2002-born defenseman Tanner Komzak along with the official announcement that 2002-born blueliner Jack Bar joins the team for 2020-21.

Komzak, from North Vancouver, BC, played 38 games with the Langley Rivermen as a rookie in 2019-20 and scored a goal and three assists. He had 23 points in 39 junior B games with the Langley Trappers of the Pacific Junior Hockey League the season before.

Bar’s commitment was speculated on Friday. The Newmarket, Ontario product is committed to Harvard University and scored 52 points in 57 games with St. Andrew’s College this past season.

Bulldogs grab forward Assam

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs announced the addition of 2003-born forward Kobe Assam for the upcoming season after his performance at their identification camp this past weekend.

Assam is from Kelowna and had 14 goals and 21 assists in 33 games with the Okanagan Hockey Academy Red Prep team of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League in 2019-20. He also played two games with the Bulldogs in February as an affiliate and didn’t register any points.

Taylor signs in the SJHL

Defenseman Trey Taylor (no points in one game as an affiliate player with Alberni Valley in 2019-20) has signed with the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the upcoming season.

Taylor, a 2002-born blueliner, had 18 points in 36 games with the Fraser Valley U18 Thunderbirds in the BC U18 AAA League this past season.

Torrel joins Swamp Rabbits for 2020-21

Forward Gage Torrel (36 goals, 52 assists in 82 games with Langley from 2013-15) has signed an ECHL contract with Greenville Swamp Rabbits for 2020-21.

Torrel, 26, had 12 points in 38 ECHL games with Rapid City, Fort Wayne, and Florida in 2019-20.

Campbell let go by Angers

Forward Cody Campbell (45 goals, 70 assists in 103 games with Burnaby from 2006-08) wasn’t signed to a new contract by Angers of Synerglace Ligue Magnus, which is the top pro league in France, for the 2020-21 season.

Campbell, 33, has spent the last eight seasons with Angers, scoring 94 goals and 149 assists in 269 games.

Angers signs defenseman Smith

Defenseman Jerret Smith (no points in two games with Surrey in 2011-12) has signed with Angers for the 2020-21 season.

Smith is coming off four seasons playing U SPORTS hockey with the University of British Columbia. The 25-year-old finished with 68 points in 109 games with the Thunderbirds.
