BCHL Today: Silverbacks bring in Fischer from MJHL, Bulldogs forward Grouchy commits to U Sports, and more

 

Silverbacks make a three-team deal for Fischer

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks made a series of trades to acquire 2002-born forward Braden Fischer from the Winnipeg Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

First, the Silverbacks picked up 2001-born forward Jayce Nikbakht from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Notre Dame Hounds for 2000-born defenseman Devin Newhook. They then flipped Nikbakht and future considerations to Winnipeg for Fischer.

Fischer, who’s from Winnipeg, had 19 goals and 26 assists in 58 games with the Blues last season and was named to the MJHL all-rookie team.

Newhook had five assists in 31 games for the Silverbacks as a rookie in 2019-20. The St. John’s, Newfoundland product is a graduate of the Kimball Union Academy.

Nikbakht had three goals and seven assists in 53 games with Notre Dame this past season.

Bulldogs forward Grouchy commits to Lakehead University

Alberni Valley Bulldogs graduating forward Matthew Grouchy has committed to Lakehead University of U Sports for this September. He is a veteran of 207 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games.

The 1999-born left winger from Labrador City, Newfoundland had three goals and 20 assists in 22 games with the Bulldogs after joining them from the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL.

Reichert re-ups with Norfolk Admirals

Forward Jakob Reichert (50 goals, 66 assists in 199 games with Merritt and Langley from 2010-14) has signed a one-year contract extension with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.

Reichert had four goals and six assists in 16 games with the Admirals in 2019-20. He added nine goals and eight assists in 16 games with the Southern Professional Hockey League’s Peoria Rivermen. Reichert also played three games for Fort Wayne in the ECHL.

Rauser joins junior B Campbell River as assistant coach

Gavin Rauser (30 goals, 41 assists in 140 games with Powell River from 2015-18) has joined the Campbell River Storm of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League as an assistant coach.

Rauser has spent the last two seasons as a player with Vancouver Island University of the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League, where he had 12 goals and 19 assists in 46 games.
