BCHL teams given hiatus option

In a story published in the Prince George Citizen, reporter Ted Clarke writes that BCHL teams have been allowed to opt out of the league for the 2020-21 season to get their financial house in order and then return in 2021-22. Clarke interviewed Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes for the article, and Hawes says no teams thus far have indicated they will opt out.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals gained a commitment from Burnaby Winter Club Midget Prep forward Adam Grenier for the 2020-21 season.
The 17-year-old had 15 goals and 24 assists in 36 games for BWC in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League this past season. Grenier also played one game with the Chilliwack Chiefs as an affiliate player.

The Cranbrook Bucks took to social media to unveil their mascot on Tuesday. Stagger is the mascot’s name and it is a four-point whitetail deer.

Forward Ben Thomas (14 goals, 42 assists in 77 games with Powell River from 2017-19) has committed to attend NCAA Div. III Endicott College this fall.
Last season, Thomas split time between the Odessa Jackalopes in the NAHL and the Boston Junior Bruins in the NCDC. He had four goals and three assists in 17 games with the Jackalopes and three goals and three assists in 13 games with the Jr. Bruins.

Second Star: Vees forward Patrick Newell notched the winning goal 3:43 into the second period.
Third Star: Mustangs goaltender Richard Palmer made 37 saves in the loss.
Honourable mentions: Vees forward Connor Chartier posted a goal and an assist. Penticton forward Demico Hannoun had the lone assist on Newell’s winner. Melfort forward Tristan Frei scored the Mustangs’ only goal.
