BCHL Bulletin: Hubbarde heads to Norway, Terness returns to ECHL, and more

The Kansas City Mavericks have received 23-year-old goaltender Logan Terness back after he was loaned to the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League. The Burnaby, BC native posted a .913 save percentage over 24 ECHL games with the Mavs in 2025-26. He was 1-0-1 in two games with Coachella Valley. Terness starred for the Trail Smoke Eaters from 2018 to 2021, compiling a stellar 2.57 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage across 59 career BCHL appearances.

Twenty-six-year-old Pickering, Ontario native Matt Hubbarde has signed with Ringerike in Norway, transferring from the Bloomington Bison. The forward posted three goals and 11 points across 47 ECHL games in 2025-26. Hubbarde previously skated for the Langley Rivermen during the 2019-20 season, recording 10 goals and 26 points in 35 career BCHL contests.

Surrey, British Columbia product Darien Craighead is heading to Denmark, joining the Aalborg Pirates from HC Innsbruck. The 29-year-old forward played two ICEHL games for Innsbruck in 2025-26. Craighead suited up for the Langley Rivermen, Cowichan Valley Capitals, and Chilliwack Chiefs from 2013 to 2016, amassing 52 goals and 138 points in 143 career BCHL games.

The 2005-born goaltender Florian Wade has committed to Hobart College to play NCAA Division III hockey after playing out his junior career with the Rochester Jr. Americans. The Anchorage, Alaska product secured a .914 save percentage through 26 NAHL games with the Jr. Ams in 2025-26. Wade made five career BCHL appearances for the Langley Rivermen during the 2024-25 season, logging a 1-1-1 record with an .867 save percentage.

Following a steady professional career, 27-year-old defender Kele Steffler has announced his retirement. The Durango, Colorado native tallied three points in 33 AlpsHL games with EK Zell am See in 2025-26. Steffler spent part of the 2017-18 season with the Wenatchee Wild, appearing in two career BCHL contests before continuing his career in Austria.

Victoria, BC product Josh Adkins has officially departed the Adelaide Adrenaline. The 31-year-old forward notched four points over 14 AIHL appearances split between Adelaide and Melbourne in 2025-26. Adkins skated for the Victoria Grizzlies, Alberni Valley Bulldogs, and Cowichan Valley Capitals in the BCHL from 2012 to 2016, totalling 95 points in 166 career games.

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
