The BCHL announced its 2019-20 season award winners on Wednesday, a day before the Fred Page Cup playoffs started. The awards were voted on by all 17 BCHL coaches.
Vern Dye Memorial Trophy (Most Valuable Player)
Our final award is the big one: The Vern Dye Memorial Trophy for league MVP.

Kent Johnson (40 goals, 61 assists in 52 games with Trail) won the Vern Dye Memorial Trophy as BCHL Most Valuable Player and the Brett Hull Trophy as the league’s top scorer. At 17, Johnson is a top prospect for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and will attend the University of Michigan this September.
BCHL Top Goaltender
The Goaltending Award for the league's Top Goalie goes to Coquitlam Express G Clay Stevenson!

Coquitlam Express goaltender Clay Stevenson is the recipient of the BCHL Top Goaltender award after posting 30 wins, a 1.77 goals-against-average, a .936 save percentage and four shutouts. Stevenson is in his final year of junior hockey and set to attend Dartmouth College this fall.
BCHL Top Defenceman
Next up is the Defensive Award for the league's Top Defenceman. This year's winner is Akito Hirose of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks!

Salmon Arm Silverbacks defenseman Akito Hirose wins the BCHL Top Defenceman award. The Calgary native had nine goals and 42 assists in 57 games, which was tops among all blueliners. Hirose will attend Minnesota State University this September.
Bruce Allison Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year)
This year's Bruce Allison Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year goes to Trail Smoke Eaters G Logan Terness!
The 17-year-old led all rookie goalies in wins (27), SV% (.932) and GAA (2.36). His save percentage was also the 8th-best all-time in a single season! pic.twitter.com/68I4kCIKoO

Trail Smoke Eaters goaltender Logan Terness is the BCHL’s Rookie of the Year after finishing second overall in the league in wins (27), fourth in goals-against-average (2.36) and third in save percentage (.932). The Burnaby native played 44 games, tied with Cowichan Valley netminder Zach Borgiel for second-most in the league this season.
Bob Fenton Trophy (Most Sportsmanlike Player)
Next up is the Bob Fenton Trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Player, voted on by the coaches.

Kent Johnson also won the Bob Fenton Trophy as the BCHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year after recording just 14 penalty minutes all season. The Port Moody, BC product led the BCHL in scoring with 41 goals and 60 assists. His 14 penalty minutes was lowest among the top 20 scorers in the league.
Joe Tennant Memorial Award (Coach of the Year)
The lone award voted on by the BCHL broadcasters is the Joe Tenant Memorial Trophy for Coach of the Year.

In his third season as a BCHL head coach, Coquitlam Express GM and Head Coach Jason Fortier takes home his first BCHL Coach of the Year award, as voted on by the league’s 17 broadcasters. Fortier coached the Express to a league-best 47-9-1-1 record, breaking franchise marks for wins and points.
Former Chiefs blueliner Cholowski recalled to Detroit Red Wings

Defenceman Dennis Cholowski (16 goals, 51 assists in 106 games with Chilliwack from 2014-16) has been recalled by the Detroit Red Wings from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
Cholowski, who was chosen 20th overall by Detroit in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, has three goals and nine assists in 27 games with the Griffins and two goals and six assists in 33 games with the Red Wings this season.
Former Vees defenceman Ramsey reassigned to Indy of the ECHL

Defenceman Jack Ramsey (26 goals, 37 assists in 111 games with Penticton from 2013-15) has been reassigned from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL to the Indy Fuel of the ECHL.
Ramsey has two goals and six assists in 40 games with the Fuel this season.

Diego Cuglietta (40 goals, 88 assists in 149 games for Merritt from 2012-15) is on his way to the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL after being reassigned by the Texas Stars of the AHL.
Cuglietta has one goal and three assists in 23 AHL games with the Stars and one assist in six ECHL games with the Steelheads this season.
Former Express forward Rockwood reassigned to ECHL

Forward Adam Rockwood (19 goals, 81 assists in 107 games with Coquitlam from 2012-14) has been returned to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL.
Rockwood had two assists in eight games with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL since being recalled in late December. He has nine goals and 22 assists in 43 games with the Swamp Rabbits this season.

Goaltender Jeff Smith (45-23-2, 2.39 GAA, .925 SV%, 8 SO in 77 games with Powell Rvier from 2013-16) has been traded in the ECHL from the Utah Grizzlies to the Orlando Solar Bears.
Smith was 3-3 with a 3.23 GAA and an .872 SV% in six games with Utah in this, his first pro season after a three year career at St. Cloud State.
