BCHL extends regular season by seven days
The season will now be completed on Sunday, Mar. 27 instead of Sunday, Mar. 20. The BCHL Fred Page Cup playoffs will begin on Friday, Apr. 1.
Lafontaine loaned to Chicago Wolves
The American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves announced that 24-year-old goaltender Jack LaFontaine (30-13-3, 2.19 goals-against average, .923 save percentage, and three shutouts with Penticton in 2018-19) has been loaned to the team by the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.
LaFontaine, from Mississauga, ON, played 20 games with the University of Minnesota in 2021-22, posting a 12-8-0 record, a 2.69 goals-against average, and a .900 save percentage. He was signed by the Hurricanes on Jan. 9 and played in two NHL contests. He is 0-0-0 with a 7.80 goals-against average and a .780 save percentage.
Fitzgerald re-signs with IF Bjorkloven
28-year-old forward Gerry Fitzgerald (83 goals, 105 assists in 211 games with Salmon Arm, Nanaimo, Prince George, and Victoria from 2009-14) has re-signed with HockeyAllsvenskan’s IF Bjorkloven.
Fitzgerald, from Port Alberni, BC, is playing in his first season with Bjorkloven and has 11 goals and seven assists through 24 games.
Redler moves up a level in Germany
25-year-old forward Nolan Redler (four goals, three assists in 20 games with Trail in 2015-16) has been transferred from Regionalliga’s EHC Neuwied 2016 to EV Lindau of the Oberliga.
Redler, from Winchester, MA, scored 28 times and added 36 assists in just 17 games with EHC Neuwied 2016 this season. Redler spent four seasons playing NCAA Division III hockey with UMass-Boston after his lone season in the BCHL.
