BCHL Bulletin: Spruce Kings, Vipers earn player commitments, Hirose returned to Griffins, and more!

Spruce Kings get commitment from Primerano

2005-born forward Luca Primerano has committed to the Prince George Spruce Kings for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season.

Primerano, who hails from North Vancouver, BC, is with the Burnaby Winter Club U18 Prep squad in the Canadian Sport School Hockey Legaue this season, where he has 10 goals and 19 assists in 20 games. Last season in five games with the Burnaby Winter Club U16 team, Primerano scored 12 goals and added one assist.

Blackburn commits to Vipers for 2022-23

2003-born forward Will Blackburn has committed to the Vernon Vipers for the 2002-23 BCHL season.

Blackburn, who is from Dorval, QC, has played 20 games this season with the GBL Bruins 18U AAA team in the EHF U18 Elite league, scoring 14 goals and adding 15 assists. In 2020-21, Blackburn scored four goals and added six assists in six games with Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH.

Hirose reassigned to Griffins

Forward Taro Hirose (33 goals, 88 assists in 116 games with Salmon Arm from 2014-16) has been reassigned from the Detroit Red Wings taxi squad to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

25-year-old Hirose, from Winnipeg, MB, has played in one NHL game this season with the Red Wings and didn’t register a point. Through 30 games with the Griffins in 2021-22, Hirose has eight goals and 19 assists.

Christopoulos released from PTO by Wolves

27-year-old goaltender Billy Christopoulos (22-22-0, 3.05 goals-against average, .906 save percentage, three shutouts with Alberni Valley in 2014-15) has been released from his professional try-out by the AHL’s Chicago Wolves.

Christopoulos, who is from Raleigh, NC, has played 17 games for the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL in 2021-22. He has a 13-2-2 record with a 2.45 goals-against average, and a .922 save percentage.

Redmond acquired by Swamp Rabbits

26-year-old goaltender Angus Redmond (59-61-0, 2.94 goals-against average, .906 save percentage, eight shutouts with Salmon Arm from 2012-16) has been acquired by the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits from the Kansas City Mavericks.

Redmond, who is from Langley, BC, has gotten in 12 ECHL games with the Mavericks this season, securing a 5-6-0 record to go with a 3.38 goals-against average, a .884 save percentage, and one shutout. He has not appeared in an AHL game this season but was loaned to the Charlotte Checkers on Monday.

Perry returned from loan to SPHL’s Bobcats

25-year-old goaltender Chase Perry (23-16-0, 2.62 goals-against average, .892 save percentage, five shutouts with Wenatchee in 2015-16) has been returned to the Vermillion County Bobcats of the Southern Professional Hockey League from his loan to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

Perry, from Andover, MN, did not appear in a game with the Everblades during the loan. Through three games with the Bobcats this season, Perry is 0-2-0 with a 3.04 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage.
