Chiefs add McInnes for 2022-23 season

The Chilliwack Chiefs have added 2005-born defenseman Hunter McInnes of St. George’s U18 Prep for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season.

McInnes, who hails from Nanaimo, BC, has two goals and nine points in 14 Canadian Sport School Hockey League games with St. George’s this season. He’s also played three games with the Chiefs as an affiliate.

Boser, Michaelis, and Evans earn BCHL three star honours

Wenatchee defenseman Brasen Boser, Trail forward Zach Michaelis, and West Kelowna forward John Evans are the BCHL’s three stars for the week ending Dec. 12.

Boser, 17, had two goals and three assists as the Wild went 2-0. The Minot, ND product led Wenatchee to road wins over Merritt on Saturday and West Kelowna on Sunday. Four of his five points came on the power play for the Wild.

Michaelis, a 19-year-old, posted three goals and two assists last week. The Elk River, MN native was the game’s first star on Friday when he scored twice in regulation and once in a shootout as the Smokies beat Vernon 3-2. On Saturday, he was in on all three of Trail’s goals in a 6-3 defeat by Penticton.

19-year-old Evans recorded two goals and six points in a trio of games for the Warriors last week. The Surrey, BC product scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-3 romp over Merritt on Friday. He then had a goal and two assists versus Vernon on Saturday and an assist against Wenatchee on Sunday.

BCHL DOPS suspends Tattle for two games

2001-born forward Ryan Tattle of the Coquitlam Express has been suspended for two games by the BC Hockey League department of player safety after receiving a major penalty and game misconduct for kneeing. The infraction occurred at the 7:02 mark of the third period of Saturday’s 7-4 loss in Alberni Valley.

Tattle, a Port Moody, BC product who’s committed to the University of Connecticut, will sit out Friday’s road game in Chilliwack and Saturday’s home date with Powell River. He is eligible to return on Jan. 2 at home against Nanaimo.

Ward to sit for two games with a suspension

Merritt Centennials forward Ben Ward is suspended for a pair of games after he was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind at 10:16 of the first period in Saturday’s 7-1 loss to Wenatchee.

The Kamloops, BC native will sit out Thursday and Friday’s games when the Cents visit the Wild. He is eligible to return to Merritt’s lineup on Saturday for the third of three straight for Merritt in Wenatchee.

Hewitt suspended for one game by the BCHL

Ashburnham, MA native Jake Hewitt of the Nanaimo Clippers was suspended by the BCHL DOPS on Sunday after getting an instigating minor, a five-minute major, and game misconduct for fighting with 6:25 left in the first period of Saturday’s 5-4 win against Powell River.

The 19-year-old forward sat out the Clippers’ home ice win over Alberni Valley on Sunday and can return to Nanaimo’s lineup on Wednesday on the road against Cowichan Valley.

El-Mir and Craighead traded from Norfolk to Indy in the ECHL

Forwards Darien Craighead (52 goals, 86 assists in 143 games with Langley, Cowichan Valley, and Chilliwack from 2013-16) and Karl El-Mir (six goals, five assists in 29 games with Salmon Arm in 2014-15) were traded in the ECHL on Monday from the Norfolk Admirals to the Indy Fuel.

Craighead, a 24-year-old from Surrey, BC, had six goals and 11 points in 22 games with the Admirals this season, his second in the ECHL. El-Mir, 25, posted three goals and 11 points in 20 games for Norfolk. The Greenfield Park, QC product started his ECHL career with Indy in 2019.

Kozlowski recalled from Iowa Heartlanders to the Iowa Wild

Goaltender Trevin Kozlowski (9-16-0, 3.98 goals-against-average, .892 save percentage, one shutout in 29 games with Salmon Arm in 2016-17) was recalled from the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League on Monday.

The 24-year-old from Valencia, CA is 4-6-1 with a 3.59 goals-against average, and a .900 save percentage in 11 games with the Heartlanders this season. It’s his first full pro season after spending the previous four seasons in the NCAA with Army.
