Teleguine commits to University of Connecticut

Chilliwack Chiefs forward Sasha Teleguine announced on Twitter on Saturday that he has committed to the University of Connecticut.

The 2002-born North Attleborough, MA product had four goals and 18 points in 20 games with the Chiefs during the 2020-21 pod season.

Teleguine, who was previously committed to Northeastern University, is ranked 134th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting for next month’s NHL Draft.

BCHL alumni join Creston coaching staff

Kyle Bergh (no points in two games with Chilliwack in 2014-15), Matthew Armitage (7-12-0, 3.30 goals-against-average, .902 save percentage, and two shutouts in 20 games with Salmon Arm in 2018-19), and Jagger Dirk (four goals, 13 assists in 29 games with Salmon Arm in 2009-10) were named as coaches for the Creston Valley Thunder Cats of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League on Saturday.

Bergh is the Thundercats’ mental fitness coach, Armitage will serve as the team’s goaltending coach, and Dirk is their defensive skills and positioning coach.

Moffatt heads to NAHL’s Alaska franchise

Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Joey Moffatt is slated to join the Anchorage Wolverines of the North American Hockey League for 2021-22.

The 2001-born forward, who was acquired by the Capitals from the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations on Feb. 24, posted five goals and nine points in 20 games for Cowichan Valley during the pod season.

Moffatt was selected second overall by the Wolverines in Wednesday’s NAHL Supplemental Draft.

From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
