Spruce Kings pick up Alami from Surrey for Kushniryk

The Prince George Spruce Kings have acquired 2001-born defenseman Cade Alami from the Surrey Eagles for 2000-born forward Wil Kushniryk.

Alami is currently playing for the Jersey Hitmen of the National Collegiate Development Conference after joining them in early January. He has a goal and five points in 16 games with the Hitmen.

The Bedford, New York product is committed to Providence College for this September. As a rookie with the Eagles last season, he had four goals and 13 points in 58 games. Alami added three points in Surrey’s seven playoff games.

Kushniryk was on the roster of the Chilliwack Jets of the Pacific Junior Hockey League last fall but didn’t play any games.

The Chilliwack native played 35 games with the Spruce Kings in 2019-20, scoring three goals and 10 points. He started the season in the Western Hockey League, playing four games with the Tri-City Americans and six games with the Calgary Hitmen.

He had three goals in 55 games with the Americans during the 2018-19 season after being acquired from the Kelowna Rockets in October 2018.

As a 17-year-old in 2017-18, Kushniryk posted a pair of goals and five points in 51 games with the Rockets.
