BCHL Today: Trades pick up ahead of deadline day, Kings, Vees, and Express add new recruits, and more

Capitals acquire impact forward Moffatt

The Cowichan Valley Capitals have acquired 2001-born forward Joey Moffatt from the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Moffatt, who’s from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, is a proven junior A scorer. He put up 70 goals and 157 points in 163 games with the Terriers from 2017-20.

He had a goal in five games with the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League this season before being released on Nov. 18.

Bulldogs trade for blueliner Wruck

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have acquired 2002-born defenseman Eduard Wruck from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Steinbach Pistons for future considerations.

Wruck played five games with the Pistons this season and the North Vancouverite posted a pair of assists in Steinbach’s 8-0 blowout win against Winnipeg on Oct. 10.

Eagles land hometown forward Slipec

The Surrey Eagles have acquired 2001-born forward Jacob Slipec from the Powell River Kings for future considerations.

Slipec, who’s from White Rock, BC, had seven goals and 24 points in 45 games with the Kings after being picked up from the Chilliwack Chiefs early in the 2019-20 season.

He started the year with a goal in six games for the Chiefs. Slipec is into his third BC Hockey League season after notching a goal and nine points as a 17-year-old with Chilliwack in 2018-19.

Bulldogs move WHL veteran Schaufler to Sherwood Park

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have traded 2000-born defenseman Loeden Schaufler to the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

The Dewinton, Alberta product notched a pair of assists in five games with the Bulldogs during the BCHL’s training season last fall.

Schaufler played 39 games in the Western Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings last season, scoring three goals and four points. He also played for the AJHL’s Spruce Grove Saints to start 2019-20 and posted five goals and 13 points in 16 games.

The Oil Kings released him last May and the Bulldogs acquired his junior A rights in June.

Kings send Lepine to Maritime Hockey League

The Powell River Kings have acquired future considerations from the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Hockey League for 2001-born defenseman Olivier Lépine.

It’s the third time since June that the Montreal product had his junior A rights moved.

First, Penticton picked up Lépine and 2001-born forward Ryan Upson from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Notre Dame Hounds for 2001-born forward Liam Noble and 2002-born defenseman Carson Hemenway on June 23.

Then that same day, the Vees flipped LĂ©pine and future considerations to Powell River for 2001-born defenseman Ben Wozney.

Capitals trade Webster close to home

The Cowichan Valley Capitals have acquired future considerations from the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Hockey League for 2000-born defenseman Clark Webster.

Webster hails from nearby Kensington, Prince Edward Island, which is about 15 kilometres from Summerside. He had two assists in eight games for the Capitals during last fall’s BC Hockey League training season.

He also notched nine assists in 56 games in Cowichan during the 2019-20 season and one helper in five Fred Page Cup playoff games.

Vees add Wisconsin commit Mann for next season

The Penticton Vees have recruited 2003-born forward Ethan Mann for the 2021-22 BC Hockey League season.

Mann, who is committed to the University of Wisconsin for Sept. 2022, has nine goals and 32 points in 21 games with University School in Wisconsin this season.

The Fox Point, Wisconsin native also has nine goals and 17 points in 18 games with his state team in the Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League.

Express bring in Williams for 2021-22

The Coquitlam Express announced the commitment of 2002-born forward Brendan Williams for next season on Wednesday.

The product of San Juan Capistrano, California is playing high school hockey this season with Avon Old Farms, a boarding school in Connecticut.

In 27 games at Avon in 2019-20, Williams had six goals and 32 points. He added 10 goals and 18 points in 30 games with the Neponset Valley River Rats 18U AAA team.

Kings recruit Lucarelli for next season

The Powell River Kings have recruited 2003-born forward Anthony Lucarelli for the 2021-22 season.

Lucarelli hails from Chatham, Ontario, and has spent this season with his hometown Maroons of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

In his 16-year-old season of 2019-20, Lucarelli scored 17 goals and 39 points in 35 games with the Elgin Middlesex U18 AAA Chiefs. He added 10 points in 10 playoffs game.

Stuart hangs ’em up after knee injury

Forward Brodi Stuart (one assist in one game with Merritt in the 2020-21 training season) announced his retirement from junior hockey on Wednesday as he joined the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers as an assistant coach.

Stuart, a product of Langley, played three seasons with the Blazers and scored 115 points in 201 games. He is the son of Centennials director of hockey operations and assistant general manager John Stuart.

Sadhra-Kang signs with the Hurricanes for 2021 WHL season

2003-born defenseman Kayden Sadhra-Kang (one assist in three games with Surrey in 2019-20) signed a WHL standard player agreement with the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday.

The Richmond, BC product was skating with St. George’s School U18 Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League this season but didn’t get into any games due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Sadhra-Kang had a goal and 18 points in 36 games with St. George’s in 2019-20.

Lyon commits to Red Deer College

2000-born goaltender Kristian Lyon (2-4-1, 3.30 goals-against-average, .886 save percentage in 13 games with Langley in 2019-20) has committed to Red Deer College of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for this September.

Lyon, who’s from Langley, is 0-1 with a 4.12 goals-against-average and a .893 save percentage in two games with the SJHL’s Battlefords North Stars this season.
