A total of 54 players who skated in the BC Hockey League are featured on NHL training camp rosters, which have been unveiled gradually by the league’s 31 teams over the first handful of days of 2021.
All 31 teams have now opened training camp for a shortened season due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks were the last two teams to announce their training camp rosters, doing so on Monday.
The BCHL compiled its own list of alumni featured on NHL training camp rosters but didn’t include players who were affiliates in the league and as such, the number is six less than posted here.
The Detroit Red Wings lead the way with six players who have BCHL experience in camp. The Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, and Nashville Predators each feature three players who skated in the BCHL.
Boasting 14 former players on the list of training camp attendees, the Penticton Vees lead all BCHL clubs. Salmon Arm, West Kelowna, and Coquitlam/Burnaby are next with six each. Merritt has five former players while Surrey and Victoria each have four.
The Trail Smoke Eaters and Nanaimo Clippers each have three former players attending NHL camps while Chilliwack, Langley, and Prince George feature two each.
Cowichan Valley, Powell River, Quesnel, and Vernon have one former player among all attendees.
