The BC Hockey League announced the award winners for the Vernon pod on Friday. Players from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Vernon Vipers, and West Kelowna Warriors were eligible to earn awards.

- Vernon pod top scorer: Simon Tassy, Salmon Arm Silverbacks
- Vernon pod top rookie: Noah Serdachny, Salmon Arm Silverbacks

Herrington commits to Lake Superior State University

2002-born Prince George Spruce Kings forward John Herrington has committed to Lake Superior State University for the 2022-23 season.
Herrington, who’s from Hudson’s Hope, BC, had six goals and 14 points in 20 games with the Spruce Kings as a rookie during the pod season.
Olischefski earns University of Denver most inspirational player

University of Denver forward Kohen Olischefski (38 goals, 87 assists in 124 games with Chilliwack from 2015-17) was named Pioneers most inspirational player on Friday.
The 23-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, posted 22 goals and 53 points in 134 games with Denver over the last three seasons, including as captain in 2020-21. He has transferred to Providence College for this September.
Schell signs with Islanders Hockey Club for 2021-22

Goaltender Cal Schell (4-9-1, 3.76 goals-against-average, .892 save percentage in 14 games with Surrey in 2019-20) has signed with the Islanders Hockey Club of the National Collegiate Development Conference for the 2021-22 season.
The 2001-born native of Burlington, Ontario was 4-3 with a 3.90 goals-against-average and a .894 save percentage in seven games with the Atlanta Mad Hatters of the US Premier Hockey League in 2020-21.
Becker inks a deal with Neuilly-sur-Marne

Defenseman Kyle Becker (five goals, four assists in 39 games with Cowichan Valley in 2011-12) has signed with Neuilly-sur-Marne for the 2021-22 season.
The 27-year-old from Burnaby had two assists in 13 games with the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League this past season.

Defenseman Griffin Mendel (four goals, 20 assists in 106 games with Penticton from 2015-17) earned the defensive player of the year award for the University of Denver men’s hockey team.
Mendel, a 22-year-old from Kelowna, had five goals and 20 points in 134 NCAA games with the Pioneers over the last four seasons. He transferred to Quinnipiac for 2021-22 earlier this spring.

Defenseman Reid Irwin (no points in four games with Cowichan Valley in 2016-17) was named the University of Denver’s most improved player on Friday.
The 22-year-old freshman from Victoria had three goals in a dozen games for the Pioneers during the 2020-21 season.
