Grizzlies bring in Kelsey for 2021-22

The Victoria Grizzlies announced the signing of 2004-born goaltender Kyle Kelsey for the 2021-22 BC Hockey League season.

Kelsey, who’s from Maple Ridge, BC, played three games for the Vancouver North East Chiefs U18 AAA in exhibition play in 2020-21, finishing with a 2-1 record, a 3.00 goals-against-average, and a .910 save percentage.

He was selected in the fifth round, 107th overall by Moose Jaw in the 2019 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Urekar and Nikkel named to BC Hockey Male U16 staff

West Kelowna Warriors assistant coach Ayrton Nikkel (six assists in 26 games with Salmon Arm in 2015-16) was unveiled on Friday as an assistant coach for BC Hockey’s Male U16 team for the 2021 Program of Excellence season.

Joining Nikkel as an assistant for the Male U16 squad is current Trail Smoke Eaters assistant coach Jeff Urekar. The head coach of the Male U16 team is former Coquitlam Express assistant coach Jamie Jackson.

McKenzie signs with the AHL’s Texas Stars

The Texas Stars have signed forward Curtis McKenzie (33 goals, 41 assists in 102 games with Penticton from 2007-09) to a two-year American Hockey League contract.

The 30-year-old from Golden, BC had five goals and 13 points in 26 games with the Utica Comets in 2020-21, his seventh season in the AHL.

Marino inked by Chicago to an AHL pact

Forward Kyle Marino (17 goals, 34 assists in 111 games with West Kelowna from 2014-16) inked an AHL contract with the Chicago Wolves for the 2021-22 season.

The 26-year-old product of Niagara Falls, ON posted two goals and six points in 27 games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers in 2020-21.

Teves signs deal with the Rochester Americans

The Rochester Americans of the AHL announced the signing of 26-year-old defenseman Josh Teves (five goals, 28 assists in 57 games with Merritt in 2014-15) to a one-year contract on Friday.

The Calgary, AB product played 23 games with the AHL’s Utica Comets in 2020-21 and registered a goal and three assists.

Foreman fuels up in Indianapolis

Forward Quin Foreman (40 goals, 55 assists in 108 games with West Kelowna from 2015-17) has signed an ECHL contract with the Indy Fuel for the 2021-22 season.

Foreman, 25, is coming off a four-year NCAA career at Dartmouth College where the Norwood, MA product posted 32 goals and 72 points in 98 games.
