BCHL Today: Vipers add WHL veteran forward Appelt, Kings forward Roloson commits to LSSU, and more

 

Vipers sign WHL veteran Ryley Appelt

The Vernon Vipers announced the signing of 2000-born forward Ryley Appelt on Saturday. The Edmonton product was released by the Western Hockey League’s Kamloops Blazers on July 31 after clearing waivers in the league.

Appelt played 161 games with Kamloops and scored 15 goals and 13 assists to go along with 181 penalty minutes. He had one goal in six playoff games with the Blazers.

He does have some junior A experience as he skated in four games with the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League as an affiliate player in 2016-17.

Roloson commits to Lake Superior State

Powell River Kings 2000-born forward Brett Roloson has committed to Lake Superior State University for September 2021.

The son of former NHL goaltender Dwayne Roloson played 33 games for the Kings in 2019-20 and posted 13 goals and 13 assists. He added a goal and four assists in five playoff games.

Roloson also had 16 points in 19 games with the Merritt Centennials before being traded to Powell River last November. He is a veteran of 108 BCHL games over the last three seasons.

Benn welcomes baby girl

Defenseman Jordie Benn (24 goals, 90 assists in 172 games with Victoria from 2005-08), and his fiance Jessi welcomed a baby girl this past Thursday.

Benn, who’s from Victoria, is expected to join his Vancouver Canucks teammates in Edmonton soon for their Stanley Cup qualifier series against Minnesota.
