Ruscheinski commits to Lindenwood University
Salmon Arm Silverbacks defender Kieran Ruscheinski has committed to Lindenwood University to play NCAA hockey this September.
Ruscheinski, a seventh-round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2019, had two goals and 12 points in 80 games with Salmon Arm over the last three seasons.
The 2001-born blueliner is a native of Calgary, AB, and the 12th member of the Silverbacks 2021-22 roster to commit to an NCAA school.
Smoke Eaters bring in Crowell for 2022-23
2004-born forward Brandon Crowell has signed for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season with the Trail Smoke Eaters.
The right winger from Dartmouth, NS played the 2021-22 season with the Mount St. Charles Academy 18U AAA team where he suited up for 72 games, collecting 17 goals and 44 points.
Crowell was selected by the Charlottetown Islanders in the 10th round, 178th overall, in the 2020 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.
Eagles sign Fyffe to a three-year extension
The Surrey Eagles announced the signing of Mitch Fyffe (17 goals, 20 assists in 161 games with Coquitlam and Surrey from 2011-14) to a three-year contract as an on-ice skills and development coach.
Fyffe, a 28-year-old from New Westminster, BC, spent 2021-22 as head coach of St. George’s School U17 Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.
Powell takes his game to IK Oskarshamn
Forward Myles Powell (44 goals, 64 assists in 151 games with Alberni Valley, Victoria, and Cowichan Valley from 2011-14) has signed with the IK Oskarshamn of the Swedish Hockey League for the 2022-23 season.
Powell, 27, had 17 goals and 44 points in 40 games with Västerviks IK and HV71 of HockeyAllsvenskan in 2021-22. HockeyAllsvenskan is the second-highest level of pro hockey in Sweden.
Von Ungern-Sternberg joins Heilbronn
24-year-old August von Ungern-Sternberg (28 goals, 41 assists in 113 games with Wenatchee between 2015-16 and 2017-18) has inked a deal for next season with Heilbronner Falken of Deutsche Eishockey Liga 2.
During the 2021-22 season, the Singapore, SGP product notched 42 goals and 70 points in 43 games with the Rostock Piranhas of Oberliga, which is the third tier of hockey in Germany.
Pitt takes over in the booth for Surrey
The Surrey Eagles announced the arrival of Joey Pitt as their new play-by-play announcer for next season. He takes over from Cole Marton, who left the Eagles to join the Chilliwack Chiefs as sales and guest experience coordinator.
Pitt, who’s entering his second year in the BCIT Radio Arts and Entertainment Program in September, spent the 2021-22 season as play-by-play broadcaster for the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BC Elite Hockey League.
The 23-year-old also served as public address announcer for the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League.
Akl commits to Aurora University
2001-born forward Hassan Akl (two goals, three assists in 28 games with Surrey in 2019-20) has committed to Aurora University to play NCAA Division III hockey.
The Chestermere, AB product notched 11 goals and 51 points in 58 games split between Fort McMurray and Lloydminster in the Alberta Junior Hockey League this past season.
