Kings and Warriors swing a deal
The Powell River Kings have acquired 2004-born forward Kailus Green and 2005-born forward Matthew Lee from the West Kelowna Warriors in exchange for 2004-born forward Trent Wilson.
Green, who hails from Kelowna, B.C., posted nine goals and 15 points in 50 games as a rookie with the Warriors in 2022-23. He was scoreless in five Fred Page Cup playoff games for West Kelowna.
Lee is a native of St. Catherines, Ont. who finished this past season with a pair of goals and seven points in only 19 games due to injury. He also went scoreless in five BCHL playoff games with the Warriors.
Wilson, a native of Tsawwassen, B.C., wrapped up the 2022-23 BCHL season with six goals and six assists in 32 games for the Surrey Eagles. He also had three goals and five points in 12 playoff games for Surrey.
Powell River had acquired Wilson to finalize the Sept. 14 trade which saw 2003-born forward Ethan Riesterer join the Eagles.
Hewlett commits to Simon Fraser University
2002-born defender Dylan Hewlett has committed to Simon Fraser University of the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League for this September.
The blueliner from Port Moody, B.C. had five goals and 32 points in 133 games for the Powell River Kings over the last four seasons. He also got into three games with the Kings as an affiliate player in 2018-19.
Tabor turns pro with Mont-Blanc
23-year-old defender Peter Tabor (one goal, four assists in 35 games with Cowichan Valley in 2018-19) has signed his first professional hockey contract with Mont-Blanc of the French Ice Hockey Federation Division 1, which is the second level of the sport in France. Mont-Blanc is based in Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, a village of 5,600 in the French Alps near the Italian border.
The Edina, Minnesota product spent the last four seasons playing NCAA Division III hockey at Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. In 84 career regular season games with the Johnnies, Tabor wracked up eight goals and 44 points along with 100 penalty minutes.
Stockie won’t return to Lyss in 2023-24
Forward Ashton Stockie (eight goals, 15 assists in 57 games with Merritt in 2017-18) isn’t on the announced roster of SC Lyss of MyHockey League, which is the third tier of hockey in Switzerland. Lyss is a municipality of approximately 15,000 located northwest of Bern.
Stockie, 23, hails from Stratford, Ont., and spent the last two seasons with Lyss, scoring 17 goals and 33 points in 54 games. He added two goals and two assists in six career MyHL playoff games. Stockie also played three games on loan to SC Langenthal of the second-tier Swiss League in 2022-23 and potted one goal.
