The Alberni Valley Bulldogs defeated the Surrey Eagles 6-3 on Sept. 17. The Bulldogs scored five unanswered third period goals from being down 3-1 after the second period. In the second game, the Bulldogs blew a 2-1 lead heading into the second period for a 3-2 regulation loss in Duncan. In the third game over the last week and a half, the Bulldogs hung on for a 2-1 win over the Nanaimo Clippers.

On Sept. 17, Dawson Tritt opened the scoring for the Bulldogs 53 seconds in, only for Christophe Tellier to tie it for the Eagles 46 seconds later. Cade Alami and Cody Schiavon scored both of the Surrey’s second period goals to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes, but the Bulldogs would not go down easily. Isaac Pascoal would open the third period scoring on the power play at 2:29 and the Bulldogs would come firing with goals from Carson Hemenway, Jackson Munro, Ryan Doolin and an empty netter from Josh Zary to win it 6-3.
In the second game, Josh Kagan opened the scoring for the Cowichan Valley Capitals 9:05 into the first period. Mitchell Deelstra would score a tying goal for Alberni Valley 39 seconds later. Stephen Castagna scored the go ahead goal for the Bulldogs, but it wouldn’t last as Olivier Gauthier knotted a tying goal for the Capitals in the second period, and Cole Broadhurst tallied the winning goal in the third period.
In game three, two goals from Deelstra would be enough for the Bulldogs to defeat the Nanaimo Clippers 2-1. This allowed Alberni to extend its streak of being undefeated at home.
Preview vs. Prince George
The Bulldogs next game is Friday, Sept. 27 against the Spruce Kings in Prince George. The Spruce Kings are third in the Mainland Division and off to a shaky start with two wins, three losses and two overtime losses through their first seven games. The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are third in the Island Division with three wins and four losses. This will be a close game that the Bulldogs should have an advantage going into.

Jackson Glassford
Glassford let in only three goals on 33 shots for a 6-3 win over the Eagles. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bulldogs GM and Head Coach Joe Martin decided to continue with Glassford as the starting goalie going forward. In the next two games, Glassford allowed two goals on 30 shots against Cowichan Valley and one goal on 36 shots versus Nanaimo. The Bulldogs won two of the three games that Glassford started last week.
Mitchell Deelstra
Deelstra, 20, had three goals and an assist over the course of three Bulldogs games. The Wallace, Ontario product has six goals and eight points in seven games so far this season.
Jackson Munro
Munro had a goal and two assists in the win over Surrey. The 19-year-old defenceman from Vancouver has a goal and four assists in seven games with the Bulldogs this season.
