BCHL Bulletin: Menard named Kings head coach, Fedor signs in Slovakia, and more

The Cowichan Capitals bolstered their forward group by adding Bryce Bryant, a 2006-born forward from Virden, Manitoba. Joining from the Virden Oil Capitals, he impressed last season by notching 28 goals and 53 assists for 81 points in 54 Manitoba Junior Hockey League games. He was also tied for the scoring lead in the MJHL playoffs with 19 points in 14 contests. Bryant is committed to Bemidji State University.
Professional hockey calls for 2005-born forward Robert Fedor, who has departed the Spruce Grove Saints to sign with HK Dukla Michalovce in the Slovak Extraliga. The Humenne, Slovakia native wrapped up his single 2025-26 BCHL campaign by tallying five goals and six assists for 11 points in 44 regular-season games before making his move overseas.
A commitment to McGill University is in the cards for 2005-born Langley Rivermen defender Frédéric Deschênes for the 2026-27 campaign. The Sorel-Tracy, Quebec product logged six goals and 24 assists, totalling 30 points, across 51 games last year. During his BCHL career, he suited up for West Kelowna (2023-24), Cowichan Valley (2023-25), Spruce Grove (2024-26), and Langley (2025-26). He heads to USports with 15 goals and 67 assists in 147 career BCHL games.
Coaching and staff news
The Powell River Kings have found their new bench boss, naming 38-year-old Brennan Menard as head coach and associate general manager. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native coached the Sherwood Park Crusaders for the last three seasons. Before that, he was an assistant coach with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. All told, he brings 11 seasons of overall coaching experience to the Sunshine Coast.
After nearly two years of dedicated service, athletic therapist Megan Diebert has stepped down from her position with the Blackfalds Bulldogs. She departs the organization to pursue new professional opportunities, leaving a vacancy that the team will officially open for applications starting June 22.

Staying put in Germany, 37-year-old forward Mark Zengerle has re-signed with the DEL2’s Krefeld Pinguine. The Rochester, New York native posted seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 48 games last season. He previously racked up 64 goals and 149 assists for 213 points in 114 BCHL games for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks from 2008 to 2010.
Australian hockey fans will soon see 24-year-old defender Kabore Dunn, who is joining the Australian Ice Hockey League’s Sydney Ice Dogs. The Mill Bay, BC product played 10 ECHL games split between Worcester and Utah last season. In his 2021-22 BCHL tenure with the Trail Smoke Eaters, he tallied a goal and 10 assists in 29 games.
Heading to the Asia League, 25-year-old forward Jojo Tanaka-Campbell has signed with the Yokohama Grits following his collegiate career at Yale. Tanaka-Campbell, who’s also from Mill Bay, BC, notched one assist in four NCAA games at Yale last year. He recorded 23 goals and 50 assists in 138 BCHL contests. He was an affiliate player with the Cowichan Valley Capitals from 2016 to 2019 and a regular for the Vernon Vipers from 2019 to 2022.
Swapping Sweden for Italy, 32-year-old forward Gerry Fitzgerald has joined HC Pustertal in the ICEHL. The Port Alberni, BC native tallied eight goals and 10 assists in 21 HockeyAllsvenskan games last year. In the BCHL, he racked up 83 goals and 105 assists for 188 points in 211 matches split between the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Nanaimo Clippers, Prince George Spruce Kings, and Victoria Grizzlies from 2010 to 2014.
France’s Ligue Magnus will see 30-year-old forward Luke Santerno switch clubs, as he leaves Gap to sign with Bordeaux. The Smithers, BC native enjoyed a strong 2025-26 campaign with 37 points on the strength of 11 goals and 26 assists in 43 games. He previously amassed 58 goals and 56 assists for 114 points over 171 BCHL appearances for the Merritt Centennials, Cowichan Valley Capitals, and Trail Smoke Eaters from 2014 to 2017.
The search for a new team is underway for 26-year-old defender Tanner Main, who parted ways with Strasbourg in the French second division. The Welland, Ontario product put up six goals and 13 assists in 25 games overseas last year. In 71 BCHL games with the Wenatchee Wild and Prince George Spruce Kings between 2019 and 2021, he produced three goals and 20 assists.
Moving on from the Langley orbit, 2008-born forward Max Malinousky has signed with the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Olds Grizzlys. The West Vancouver, BC native played two games for the Rivermen in 2025-26, recording one assist. He spent most of the year dominating the BC Elite Hockey League U18 with 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points in just 32 games for the Vancouver NW Hawks U18.
