Merritt defenceman Zakall plays 100th BCHL game

Merritt Centennials defenceman Talon Zakall hit a milestone on Saturday against Trail, playing in his 100th career BCHL games. Zakall, who’s from Merritt, is in his second season with the Cents and leads all blueliners on the team in scoring with six goals and 24 assists in 55 games.

Rivermen defenceman Dow-Kenny to miss two games

Langley Rivermen defenceman Will Dow-Kenny has been suspended two games for receiving a major penalty and a game misconduct for kneeing during Friday’s 3-2 win over Surrey.

Dow-Kenny, who has three goals and ten assists in 54 games this season, will sit out Sunday’s regular season finale in Chilliwack and game one of the Rivermen’s first round playoff series against Coquitlam.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Alberni Valley netminder Luke Pearson made 54 saves.

Second Star: Merritt forward Daniel Tkac had a goal and three assists.

Third Star: Vernon forward Ben Helgeson posted a hat trick.

Honourable Mentions: Trail forward Owen Ozar notched two goals and an assist. Wenatchee goaltender Noah Altman kicked out 43 shots. Penticton forward Danny Weight chipped in three assists.
