Coquitlam deals Connell to the AJHL’s Storm

The Coquitlam Express have traded 2001-born forward Cooper Connell to the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Connell hails from West Vancouver, BC, and is headed to Bentley University to start his NCAA hockey career this fall.

He posted six goals and 13 points in 11 games for the Express during the 2020-21 BCHL training season, which was tied for seventh overall in league scoring.

Grizzlies pick up Woodside from Prince George

The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded 2001-born goaltender Carter Woodside to the Victoria Grizzlies for future considerations.

Woodside, who’s from Asquith, Saskatchewan, left the Spruce Kings last month and was awaiting a trade. He didn’t play any games with PG during the 2020-21 BCHL training season.

He was 5-11-2 with a 3.08 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage in 22 games last season after signing with Prince George in late November 2019.

Caps acquire veteran blueliner Toder from Manitoba

The Cowichan Valley Capitals have acquired 2000-born defenseman Layne Toder from the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Toder played one game with the Kings this season and posted an assist after being acquired from the Portage Terriers in a late October trade. He had two assists in six games with the Terriers before the trade to Dauphin.

The product of Elkhorn, Manitoba is a veteran of 164 games in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen between 2017 and 2020.

Eagles get a forward, Spruce Kings get a defenseman

The Prince George Spruce Kings have acquired 2001-born defenseman Cade Alami from the Surrey Eagles for 2000-born forward Wil Kushniryk.

Alami is currently playing for the Jersey Hitmen of the National Collegiate Development Conference after joining them in early January. He has a goal and five points in 16 games with the Hitmen.

The Bedford, New York product is committed to Providence College for this September.

Kushniryk, a Chilliwack native, played 35 games with the Spruce Kings in 2019-20, scoring three goals and 10 points.

He started last season in the Western Hockey League, playing four games with the Tri-City Americans and six games with the Calgary Hitmen.

Warriors trade Trudeau to Nova Scotia

The West Kelowna Warriors have traded 2002-born forward Felix Trudeau to the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Hockey League for future considerations.

Trudeau, who’s from Terrebonne, Quebec, was fifth in scoring on the Warriors during the 2020-21 BCHL training season with four goals and five points in 11 games.

The University of Maine commit played 55 games for Northwood School of the USHS-Prep league in 2019-20, scoring 30 goals and adding 33 assists.

Eagles bring on a pair of veterans from Portage

The Surrey Eagles have added 2000-born forwards Jacob Piller and Tyson McLean for the 2020-21 BC Hockey League season.

Piller, from Balgonie, Saskatchewan, had two goals and three points in eight games with the Portage Terriers of the MJHL this season.

He had 15 goals and 48 points split between the Terriers and the Weyburn Red Wings of the SJHL in 2019-20.

McLean hails from Calgary and actually played two games with Surrey as an affiliate player back in 2018-19.

He had three goals and six points in seven games with Portage this season. In 56 games between Humboldt and Weyburn of the SJHL last season, McLean posted six goals and 17 points.

Chiefs trade futures to the Grizz for Longo

The Chilliwack Chiefs have acquired 2000-born defenseman Trevor Longo from the Victoria Grizzlies for future considerations.

Longo cleared Western Hockey League waivers on Friday. The North Vancouverite played parts of three seasons in the WHL, finishing with 33 points in 135 games split between Medicine Hat and Vancouver from 2017-20.

Victoria acquired Longo’s junior A rights from Drumheller of the Alberta Junior Hockey League last June, but he didn’t play a game for the Grizzlies during the training season last fall.

Penticton nabs local netminder McEachern

The Penticton Vees have acquired 2001-born goaltender Kaleb McEachern from the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

McEachern actually hails from Penticton so the trade is a homecoming for him. He had an 0-2 record with a 4.53 goals-against-average and a .888 save percentage in two games with the Mills this season.

As a rookie in 2019-20, he played 18 games in Melville and finished with a 1-12-1 record along with a 4.52 goals-against-average and a .886 save percentage.

West Kelowna acquire Suppin from Canmore

The West Kelowna Warriors have acquired 2002-born forward Isaac Suppin from the Canmore Eagles of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for future considerations. Suppin had an assist in two games with the Eagles this season as a rookie.

He played 37 Canadian Sport School Hockey League games for Pursuit of Excellence Prep in 2019-20 and put up 30 goals and 57 points.

Suppin played four games in the BC Hockey League last season as an affiliate player for the Vernon Vipers and scored once.

Bucks grab Henry from Portage

The Cranbrook Bucks have brought in 2000-born forward Reece Henry, who was most recently with the MJHL’s Portage Terriers.

The Regina, Saskatchewan product had a goal and three assists in eight games with the Terriers this season. In the two previous years, Henry posted a combined 28 goals and 68 points in 114 games in Portage.

Kings ship Kern to Surrey for futures

The Surrey Eagles have acquired 2002-born defenseman Ian Kern from the Powell River Kings for future considerations.

Kern was a rookie in the BCHL in 2019-20 and posted a goal and five points in 54 games for the Kings. He added an assist in five playoff games.

The Vancouverite is a product of the Greater Vancouver Canadians U18 AAA, where he had three goals and 22 points in 76 games over the course of two seasons from 2017-19.

Chiefs let Cherkowski go to Calgary

Chilliwack Chiefs forward Nicholas Cherkowski has joined the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The 2000-born forward from Vernon was tied for second in scoring on the Chiefs during the 2020-21 BCHL training season with four goals and six points in eight games.

Cherkowski, who’s committed to Merrimack College for this fall, had three goals and 11 points in 54 games split between Chilliwack, Wenatchee, and Vernon during the 2019-20 season.

LeDonne named Clippers new captain

The Nanaimo Clippers have unveiled 2000-born defenseman Trevor LeDonne as their captain for the 2020-21 season.

The native of Stoney Creek, Ontario had two goals and nine points in 15 games for the Clippers during the BCHL training season.

He takes over from Kyler Kovich, who left Nanaimo to go to the US Hockey League last month.

LeDonne is committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of St. Thomas this fall.

Bulldogs sign Talon Duff for this season

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have signed 2002-born forward Talon Duff for the 2020-21 BCHL season.

Duff played for his hometown Ridge Meadows Flames of the Pacific Junior Hockey League this season and had three goals in three games.

He had seven goals and 16 points in 41 games as a rookie with the Flames in 2019-20.

Bulldogs add Monteith and Baird from Kerry Park

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have signed 2002-born goaltender Bailey Monteith and 2001-born defenseman Matt Baird from the Kerry Park Islanders of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.

Baird is a three-year veteran of the Islanders with 15 goals and 46 points in 103 games. The Cowichan Bay, BC product had eight points in 11 games this season.

Monteith, a Kamloops, BC native, was 3-3-0 with a 2.85 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage in six games as a rookie with Kerry Park this season.

Smoke Eaters bring on Dann and Lawczynski as affiliates

With the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League cancelled, the Trail Smoke Eaters have added a pair of Castlegar Rebels as affiliate players.

Joining the Smokies are 2003-born goaltender Ethan Lawczynski and 2004-born forward Nathan Dann.

Lawczynski is from Castlegar and he has a 4-15-0 record with a 4.76 goals-against-average and a .883 save percentage over the last two seasons.

Dann hails from Trail and he posted a goal and two assists in three games as a rookie with the Rebels this season.

DeKeyser called up from taxi squad to the Red Wings

Defenseman Danny DeKeyser (eight goals, 17 assists in 58 games with Trail during 2008-09) has been called up from the taxi squad to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.

The 30-year-old from Detroit has a goal and an assist in 13 games with the Red Wings this season, his eighth in the National Hockey League.

Pritchard inks an ECHL deal with Wheeling

Forward Jacob Pritchard (39 goals, 37 assists in 54 games with Powell River in 2014-15) has signed a contract for 2020-21 with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

The 25-year-old from Macomb Township, Michigan had four goals and six points in 13 ECHL games with Greenville last season.

He added two goals and seven points in 32 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League in what was his first pro season.

Conway signs ECHL contract with Allen

Forward Scott Conway (56 goals, 60 assists in 56 games with Penticton in 2015-16) signed with the ECHL’s Allen Americans for the 2020-21 season.

The 25-year-old, who’s from Basingstoke, Great Britain, had two points in five games with the Orlando Solar Bears this season before being released late last month.
