Jeffery commits to the RIT Tigers

The Cowichan Valley Capitals announced on Wednesday that 2001-born forward Adam Jeffery has committed to playing NCAA Division I hockey at the Rochester Institute of Technology next fall.

Jeffery, who’s from Leamington, ON has six goals and one assist in four games with the Capitals so far this season. He is the seventh member of Cowichan Valley’s roster to commit to an NCAA school.

Spruce Kings name Herrington an alternate captain

The Prince George Spruce Kings unveiled on Tuesday that forward John Herrington has been named an alternate captain for the remainder of the 2021-22 BCHL season.

The 2002-born forward from Hudson’s Hope, BC is into his second full-time season with the Spruce Kings. He has 10 goals and 22 points in 15 games with Prince George this season and is committed to Lake Superior State University.

BC storm causes BCHL schedule shuffling

As a result of highway closures following the massive storm that battered British Columbia earlier this week, the BC Hockey League announced the postponement of seven games scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.

Additionally, the league added two games to the schedule, with Coquitlam hosting Surrey now on Friday and Trail travelling to Cranbrook on Saturday.

The Trans-Canada Highway through the Fraser Canyon and the Coquihalla Highway are two major routes connecting the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island with the province’s interior. Both are closed in numerous locations due to mudslides and flooding.

Salmon Arm vs. Vernon first career BCHL goals

Vernon Vipers 2002-born defenseman Liam Cavan scored his first BCHL goal at 17:09 of the second period in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The Merrimack College commit from Gloucester, ON was playing his fifth BCHL game and now has points in back-to-back games. The Vipers recruited Cavan out of St. Andrew’s College, where he played the last three seasons.

Iowa Wild reassign Gervais to ECHL’s Heartlanders

Forward Bryce Gervais (71 goals, 55 assists in 117 games with Salmon Arm and Penticton from 2010-12) was reassigned from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League to the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old from Battleford, SK is scoreless in six games with the Wild this season after signing a two-way, AHL contract with Iowa in late August.

First Star: Salmon Arm forward Simon Tassy scored the winning goal and added an assist as the Silverbacks doubled Vernon 4-2.

Second Star: Nanaimo goaltender Cooper Black made 35 saves as the Clippers edged Alberni Valley 5-4.

Third Star: Silverbacks forward Daniel Panetta notched a pair of goals in the win over the Vipers.

Honourable Mentions: Bulldogs defenseman Ryan Nause, Vernon forward Luke Buss, and Clippers forwards Austin Spiridakis and Tristan Fraser each posted a goal and an assist. Vipers forward JoJo Tanaka-Campbell and Nanaimo defenseman Ethan Mistry each had a pair of assists.
