Silverbacks hire Derek Damon as assistant coach

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have added Derek Damon as an assistant coach and director of player development for the 2020-21 season.

It’s the first coaching job for 39-year-old Damon, who wrapped up a 14-year pro career at the end of 2019-20.

Damon, who’s from Bangor, Maine, joins Silverbacks head coach Tyler Shattock along with assistants Tanner Cochrane and Carter Cochrane.

Berkopec commits to NCAA Div. III Utica College

Coquitlam Express defenseman Joey Berkopec has committed to attend Utica College and play NCAA Div. III hockey.

The 21-year-old from Oakville, Ontario, had a goal and two assists in 19 games with the Express after being acquired from Merritt in early January.

Berkopec ends his BCHL career with 13 goals and 47 assists in 163 games with the Centennials and Coquitlam.

Cents announce 2020 alumni golf tournament

The Merritt Centennials announced on Friday the details for their 2020 alumni golf tournament, which is August 8 at the Merritt Golf and Country Club. Details on the tournament are available here.

Clippers unveil 2020 golf tournament

The Nanaimo Clippers have paired up with the Nanaimo Sr. Timbermen lacrosse team for a golf tournament on August 14 at Cottonwood Golf Course in Nanaimo. Details on the tournament can be found here.

Pelino signs pro contract in Finland

Goaltender Aidan Pelino (40-23-3, 2.84 goals-against-average, .902 save percentage, two shutouts in 72 games with Chilliwack from 2014-16) has signed a contract with RoKi of Mestis, which is the second-highest level of hockey in Finland.

Pelino, 24, wrapped up a four year college career at Bentley University in 2019-20. He finishes with a career NCAA record of 39-43-10, a 2.72 GAA and a .905 SV%.
