Rickwood commits to Clarkson University

2002-born Victoria Grizzlies forward Ellis Rickwood has committed to Clarkson University to play NCAA Division I hockey starting in September 2022.

Rickwood is ranked 144th among North American skaters for this month’s NHL Draft. The right wing was second in scoring during the 2020-21 BCHL pod season with 13 goals and 30 points in 20 games.

The Brantford, ON product was voted BCHLNetwork rookie of the year and Island pod top rookie and most valuable player.

Express bring in Hamlin from Smith Falls of the CCHL

The Coquitlam Express have acquired 2003-born forward Raymond Hamlin from the Smith Falls Bears of the Central Canada Hockey League for future considerations.

Hamlin, who’s from Windsor, ON, had three goals and 14 points in 12 games with the Bears during the CCHL Developmental Scrimmages between November and March.

Silverbacks bring in Cobetto-Roy for 2021-22

In case you missed it, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks have brought in 2003-born forward Mathieu Cobetto-Roy for the upcoming BC Hockey League season.

Cobetto-Roy hails from Outremont, QC and was with Bishop’s College School Varsity in the Midwest Prep Hockey League this past season. He didn’t get into any games because of the pandemic.

He played 67 games with Bishop’s College Prep in 2019-20 and posted 46 goals and 82 points. Cobetto-Roy also had 12 goals and 26 points in 16 games with Bishop’s U16 squad.

Express vice-president and general manager Campbell joins Burnaby Lakers

The Burnaby Lakers senior A lacrosse team of the Western Lacrosse Association announced on Monday that Coquitlam Express vice-president and general manager Tali Campbell is its new president of operations and member of the board of directors.

Despite assuming the role with the Lakers, Campbell will remain in his capacity with the Express.

Hill joins the Rivermen as play-by-play broadcaster

The Langley Rivermen announce Gideon Hill as the team’s new play-by-play announcer for the BCHL TV online broadcast during the 2021-22 season.

Hill has been the broadcaster and social media manager for the Langley Trappers of the Pacific Junior Hockey League for the last four seasons.

He was named broadcaster of the year in the PJHL for the 2019-20 season.

Keith traded from Chicago to Edmonton

Defenseman Duncan Keith (27 goals, 91 assists in 119 games with Penticton from 1999-2001) was acquired by the Edmonton Oilers on Monday from the Chicago Blackhawks for defenseman Caleb Jones and a 2022 draft pick.

The 37-year-old from Winnipeg, MB played 16 seasons in the Windy City from 2005-21, posting 105 goals and 625 points in 1,192 games. He won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013, and 2015 and an Olympic gold medal in 2010 and 2014.

Ginn signs with Manchester for 2021-22

Goaltender Matt Ginn (29-21-0, 2.82 goals-against-average, .916 save percentage, two shutouts in 51 games with Victoria in 2010-11) has signed with the Manchester Storm of the Elite Ice Hockey League for 2021-22.

The 30-year-old from Lindsay, ON posted a 9-9-3 record along with a 3.00 goals-against-average, a .905 save percentage and two shutouts in 22 games with the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL in 2020-21.

Lee inks a contract with Åmåls SK

Forward Tommy Lee (34 goals, 50 assists in 112 games with Chilliwack from 2016-18) has signed a contract with Åmåls SK of Hockeytvåan, the fourth tier of pro hockey in Sweden.

Lee, 23, spent the last three seasons with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the NCAA, putting up two assists in 39 games.

Jones signs a contract extension with Vancouver Warriors

Mitch Jones (16 goals, 54 assists in 112 games with Penticton, Merritt, and Surrey from 2009-11) signed a two-year contract extension with the Vancouver Warriors of the National Lacrosse League on Monday.

Jones, a 29-year-old from Delta, BC, has 360 points in 94 NLL games split between Vancouver, Buffalo, and Washington over the last eight seasons.
