BCHL Today: Express, Eagles, and Vipers add new players for 2021-22, Beck signs PTO in Stockton, and more

 

Express bring in Kim for 2021-22 season

The Coquitlam Express have added 2004-born forward Owen Kim of North Vancouver, BC for the 2021-22 season.

Kim plays for the Vancouver North West Hawks of the BC U18 AAA League. He had eight points in six games for the Hawks before COVID-19 paused the exhibition season.

He notched five goals and eight assists in 35 games with the Hawks during the 2019-20 BC U18 AAA season.

Eagles recruit netminder Pulver for next season

The Surrey Eagles shored up their goaltending for next season with the recruitment of 2003-born Eli Pulver from St. George’s School U18 Prep.

Pulver, who’s from Vancouver, was 2-0 with a 2.41 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage in three Canadian Sport School Hockey League games with St. George’s this season.

He went 12-11 with a 2.59 goals-against-average, a .915 save percentage, and one shutout in 24 games at St. George’s last season.

Pulver was also an affiliate player for the Powell River Kings last season and made his BCHL debut in an 8-3 win over Victoria on Feb. 10, 2020. He played just under five minutes in that game and made two saves.

Vipers add goaltender David for 2021-22

The Vernon Vipers have added 2003-born goaltender Ethan David of Shawnigan Lake School U18 Prep of the CSSHL for next season.

The Vancouver product went 12-4-1 with a 1.45 goals-against-average, a .943 save percentage, and five shutouts at Shawnigan Lake last season. He hasn’t played any games yet this season.

Beck signs a pro tryout deal with Stockton

Forward Colton Beck (79 goals, 80 assists in 166 games with Langley from 2007-10) has signed a professional tryout with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

In December, Beck agreed to have his 2020-21 contract with EV Landshut of DEL2 terminated less than a week after it was signed due to COVID-19 concerns.

The 30-year-old from Langley had 41 goals and 63 assists in 329 games with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League over the last five seasons.

Ginn traded from Greenville to Kansas City

Goaltender Matt Ginn (29-21-0, 2.82 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO in 51 games with Victoria in 2010-11) has been traded from the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits to the Kansas City Mavericks for future considerations.

Ginn, a 29-year-old from Lindsay, Ontario, posted an overtime loss, a 2.97 goals-against-average and a .897 save percentage with the Swamp Rabbits after signing with them last month.

Fletcher commits to Miami University (Ohio)

2001-born forward PJ Fletcher (eight goals, 18 assists in 58 games with Wenatchee in 2018-19) has committed to Miami University (Ohio) for this September.

Fletcher, who’s from Dana Point, California, has 17 points in 21 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the US Hockey League this season.

Garteig voted named Ingolstadt player of the month

Goaltender Michael Garteig (92-23-3 with a 2.07 goals-against-average, a .921 save percentage, and 13 shutouts in 120 games with Penticton, Powell River, and Quesnel from 2009-12) has been voted as the player of the month for January by the fans of ERC Ingolstadt of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany.

The 28-year-old from Prince George finished the calendar month with a 1.71 goals-against-average and a .946 save percentage in eight games.

Jones goes from Sheffield to Telford

Defenseman Sam Jones (one goal, eight assists in 52 games with Penticton and Cowichan Valley in 2015-16) has signed with the Telford Tigers of the National Ice Hockey League, which is the second tier of British hockey.

Jones, 23, is from Walsall, Great Britain. He had seven points in 24 Elite Ice Hockey League games with the Fife Flyers in 2019-20.
