BCHL commissioner pens letter to fans

BC Hockey League commissioner Chris Hebb penned a letter to fans on Thursday. In it, Hebb notes the work of the league’s return to play task force and staff over the last nine months.

“We know everyone is looking for certainty, but, unfortunately, in a pandemic, that is in short supply. We would also like to assure you that we are doing everything possible to put the safety of our players, staff, and billet families first,” he writes.

“Our COVID-19 Safety Plan was approved by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in September and has proven to work effectively from September to November when we successfully completed 90 exhibition games without any transmissions,” continues Hebb.

The entire letter is available on the BCHL website.

Jones signs deal in Sweden

Forward Connor Jones (80 goals, 118 assists in 163 games with Vernon from 2007-10) has signed with Västerviks IK of HockeyAllsvenskan, which is the second-highest league in Sweden.

Jones, 30, had 27 points in 44 games with HC Thurgau of the Swiss League in 2019-20. The SL is the second tier of hockey in Switzerland.

Kellen Jones, who is Connor’s twin brother, has seven points in 20 games with Västerviks IK so far this season. This is the first time the brothers have played together since 2017-18 with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.
