Kings add Jones to their roster

2004-born defender Will Jones has signed for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season with the Powell River Kings.

The blueliner from Brentwood, TN played the 2021-22 season with the Shattuck St. Mary’s 18U Prep team where he suited up for 55 games, collecting two goals and 34 points.

Jones was selected by the Waterloo Black Hawks in the sixth round, 88th overall, in the 2020 US Hockey League Futures Draft.

Caps acquire Karpa from Wenatchee

The Cowichan Valley Capitals have acquired 2002-born defender Jakob Karpa from the Wenatchee Wild in exchange for future considerations.

The product of Newport Beach, CA posted three goals and 11 points in 38 games with the Wild this past season. Karpa also added three assists in seven playoff games for Wenatchee.

He’s the son of 11-year National Hockey League veteran David Karpa.

Kings bring in Yu for 2022-23

The Powell River Kings announced the signing of 2004-born forward Anthony Yu for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season. Yu spent 2021-22 with Shattuck St. Mary’s 18U Prep, where he posted 23 goals and 69 points in 55 games.

The Baldwin Park, CA native also played one game with St. Cloud of the North American Hockey League as an affiliate and notched one assist.

Rodgers returns to Penticton

The Penticton Vees unveiled Fraser Rodgers as the team’s new vice-president of business operations and director of broadcasting, communications, and public relations.

Rodgers, who hails from Nanaimo, BC, spent the last five seasons as manager of broadcasting, media, and team services for the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League.

The 34-year-old was previously with the Vees from 2011 to 2017 as their director of broadcasting and media relations. He called more than 470 regular season BCHL games, three BCHL championships, a Western Canada Cup title, and an RBC Cup national championship during his first stint in Penticton.

Towns goes from Clarkson to Michigan State

Mike Towns (21 goals, 32 assists in 193 games with Coquitlam and Penticton from 2003-07) has joined Michigan State University as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 NCAA season.

The 35-year-old from Surrey, BC was an assistant coach at Clarkson University for the last three seasons. Before that, he spent five years as either an assistant or associate coach at American International College.

Smith retires after two seasons with Angers

Defender Jerret Smith (no points in two games with Surrey in 2011-12) has hung up his skates after a pair of seasons with Angers of Synerglace Ligue Magnus in France.

Smith, a 27-year-old from Surrey, BC, posted six goals and 24 points with Angers between 2020 and this past season.

Eagles bring in Kim as a camera operator

The Surrey Eagles continue to add to their staff for the 2022-23 season and on Wednesday, they announced that Jaden Kim will serve as one of their camera operators.

Kim is currently attending BCIT as a student in the Television and Video Production program.
