Fudger commits to Oswego State
2001-born Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Brett Fudger has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at SUNY-Oswego this September.
The product of Prince Rupert, BC had 17 goals and 32 points in 45 games for the Capitals this past season. He finishes his BCHL career with 19 goals and 52 points in 112 games with Cowichan Valley and Vernon.
Eagles add Dawson as an assistant coach
The Surrey Eagles have added Matthew Dawson (six goals, 28 assists in 61 games with Surrey from 2013-14) as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season. He joins head coach Cam Keith on the Eagles’ bench.
Dawson, a 25-year-old from Delta, BC, spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach with his hometown Ice Hawks of the Pacific Junior Hockey League. He wrapped up a five-year NCAA career at the University of New Hampshire in 2020.
Hanna signs with HKM Zvolen for 2022-23
28-year-old defenseman Shane Hanna (15 goals, 59 assists in 108 games with Penticton and Salmon Arm from 2011-13) has signed with HKM Zvolen for the 2022-23 season. HKM Zvolen plays in Tipos Extraliga, which is the premier league in Slovakia.
Hanna, whoโs from New Westminster, BC, had 11 goals and 31 points in 47 games with Italian club HC Pustertal of the ICE Hockey League during the 2021-22 season.
Palandra commits to Nipissing University
Defender Michael Palandra (one goal, three assists in 15 games with Nanaimo in 2020-21) has committed to Nipissing University to play U SPORTS hockey this fall.
The 21-year-old from Markham, ON posted three goals and 30 points in 41 games split between Brockville of the Central Canada Hockey League and Cobourg of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2021-22.
Moffatt to play university hockey at Minot State
20-year-old forward Joey Moffatt (five goals, four assists in 20 games with Cowichan Valley in 2020-21) is heading to Minot State University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association in September.
Moffatt, a Portage la Prairie, MB native, finished this past season with 30 points in 23 games with Waywayseecappo of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
He also posted 10 points in 24 games in 2021-22 with the North American Hockey League’s Anchorage Wolverines.
Sweet-Coulter inks an extension in Westshore
Former Merritt Centennials general manager and head coachย Derek Sweet-Coulterย has signed a three-year contract extension with the Westshore Wolves of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League as GM and head coach. He led the Wolves to a 28-18-3 record this past season.
He was in Merritt from 2019-21 and was let go by the Centennials with an overall record of 15-48-1-3 in 67 games as head coach. Sweet-Coulter played with the Peninsula Panthers in the VIJHL during the 2002-03 season and had 18 points in 17 games.
