Bulldogs send Glassford to Blackfalds of the AJHL
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have traded 2001-born goaltender Jackson Glassford to the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for future considerations.
Over the course of 2019-20 and this season with the Bulldogs, the product of Nanoose Bay, BC posted a 15-10-1 record with a 3.41 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in 28 games.
He is committed to NCAA Division I Long Island University for next September.
Vipers bring in Seguin for 2022-23
The Vernon Vipers announced the commitment of 2004-born forward Max Seguin of Orleans, ON for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season.
Seguin has played at St. Andrew’s College of the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association over the last two seasons. He didn’t play any games in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wood and Nadeau win silver at the Capital City Challenge
Victoria Grizzlies 2005-born forward Matthew Wood and Penticton Vees 2005-born forward Bradley Nadeau claimed silver at the Capital City Challenge after Team Canada Red lost 5-4 in overtime to Team Canada Black on Wednesday.
Wood, who’s from Nanaimo, BC, finished the tournament as Team Canada Red’s top scorer with four goals and seven points in five games. Nadeau, a Saint-Francois, NB product, was tied for third in scoring on Canada Red with a goal and three assists in five games.
The Capital City Challenge was a one-time event to replace the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hopper rejoins Powell River as director of operations
The Powell River Kings have gone back to their past with an eye on the future by bringing in Rick Hopper as the organization’s director of operations in what is a newly created role.
Hopper was general manager and head coach of the BCHL’s Delta Flyers in 1987-88 and then followed the franchise when it relocated to Powell River after that season. He served in both roles for the Paper Kings from 1988-90.
Grizzlies hire Loucks as vice president, business operations
The Victoria Grizzlies have hired Byron Loucks as the team’s vice president, business operations. Loucks recently retired from WestCoast Appliance Gallery, which is an appliance store in Victoria, BC.
“I am so excited to join the Grizzlies to explore new avenues of revenue opportunities that will keep the team successful both on the ice and on the business side,” said Loucks in a news release on the Grizzlies website.
Alexander tapped as EBUG for the Avalanche
University of Toronto goaltender Jett Alexander (13-19-0, 3.14 goals-against average, .894 save percentage in 40 games with Prince George in 2019-20) was called upon to be an emergency backup goaltender for the Colorado Avalanche ahead of its game against Toronto on Wednesday.
Alexander, a 22-year-old from Bloomfield, ON, wasn’t ultimately called into action for the Avs. He is 0-1-0 with a 5.10 goals-against average and an .878 save percentage in one appearance with the U of T this season.
Topping reassigned from San Jose to Orlando
Salt Spring Island, BC native Kyle Topping (five goals, seven assists in 53 games with Cowichan Valley in 2015-16) has been reassigned by the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League to the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.
Topping, 21, has five assists in four games with Solar Bears this season and two assists in eight games with the Barracuda.
Surrey adds Connolly to its reserve roster as an AP
The Surrey Eagles have signed 2002-born goaltender Cameron Connolly as an affiliate player for this season.
The product of Surrey has spent the last two seasons with the Ridge Meadows Flames of the Pacific Junior Hockey League compiling a 9-3-0 record to go along with a 2.46 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage and one shutout.
Perron-Fontaine signs with SC Riessersee
Defenseman Alexandre Perron-Fontaine (six goals, 38 assists in 91 games with Chilliwack from 2011-13) has signed with SC Riessersee of the Oberliga, which is the third tier of pro hockey in Germany.
The 29-year-old from St-Mathieu, QC, posted two assists in six games this season with the Trois-Rivières Lions of the ECHL after signing with them on Oct. 15.
Pascoal traded from Cobourg to Carleton Place
2001-born forward Isaac Pascoal (six goals, nine assists in 42 games with Alberni Valley in 2019-20) has been traded from Cobourg of the Ontario Junior Hockey League to Carleton Place of the Central Canada Hockey League.
The Kingston, ON product has nine goals and 22 points in 21 games with the Cougars this season.
White named head coach and GM of the Freeze
The Winnipeg Freeze of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League announced the hiring of Taurean White as its head coach and general manager on Thursday.
The 36-year-old was an assistant coach for the West Kelowna Warriors during the 2018-19 season. Most recently, he was GM and head coach of the Elliott Lake Wildcats of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.
