A timeline of COVID-19 pauses in the BCHL in the first week of 2022

With the exponential spread of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, the BC Hockey League has taken various measures and precautions to try and prevent further spread and protect its players, personnel, and fans.

Below is a timeline of the BCHL’s reaction to the Omicron outbreak from across BC in accordance with the league’s COVID-19 protocol and provincial health regulations:

January 3

  • The Cowichan Valley Capitals, Langley Rivermen, and Penticton Vees paused all team activities for five days, with no games involving any of the three teams prior to Jan. 9.

January 4

  • The Trail Smoke Eaters paused all team activities for five days, with no games prior to Jan. 10.

January 5

  • The Victoria Grizzlies paused all team activities for five days, with no games prior to Jan. 11.

January 6

  • The Powell River Kings and Wenatchee Wild paused all team activities for five days, with no games prior to Jan. 12.

January 7

  • The Vernon Vipers and Merritt Centennials pause all team activities for five days, with no games prior to Jan. 13.

To this point, half of the BCHL’s 18 clubs have seen their season paused for five days and 17 games are postponed as of Friday, Jan. 7.
