Express pick up veteran dman Berkopec from Merritt

With less than a week until the BCHL trade deadline, the Coquitlam Express made a big move on Saturday, adding defenceman Joey Berkopec from Merritt for future considerations. Berkopec, 20, has 3 goals and 14 assists in 37 games with the Centennials this season. He is a veteran of 144 BCHL games and 194 junior A games when his time in the Ontario Junior Hockey League is included.

Kings rookie Moran joins Saints this fall

Powell River Kings forward Reilly Moran will join the St. Lawrence University Saints this September. Moran announced his commitment on Saturday afternoon. The 19-year-old was committed to Army, but de-committed this past autumn to find a better fit. Moran has 14 goals and 12 assists in 40 games with Powell River this season.

Grizzlies forward Amousse suspended for two games

Victoria Grizzlies forward Andrew Amousse will miss the remainder of his team’s road trip after being suspended for two games. He received the suspension after getting dinged with a 5 minute major penalty and game misconduct for kneeing in Friday’s game in Wenatchee. Amousse, who has 6 goals and 6 assists in 35 games with the Grizzlies this season, is eligible to return to Victoria’s line-up on Jan. 10 at home against Cowichan Valley.

Former Silverbacks forward Street called up to Devils

Forward Ben Street (42 goals, 60 assists in 110 games with Salmon Arm from 2003-05) was called up by the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Street, who is the captain of the Binghamton Devils, has 13 goals and 20 assists in 33 AHL games this season. The 32-year-old has played 56 NHL games during his ten year pro career.

First Star: Penticton forward Jackson Niedermayer had a hat trick.

Second Star: Langley forward Matthew Hubbarde scored three goals for the Rivermen.

Third Star: Trail forward Owen Ozar potted a hat trick for the Smoke Eaters.

Honourable Mentions: Coquitlam goalie Clay Stevenson turned aside 49 shots. Alberni Valley forward Jackson Doucet scored a pair of goals. Merritt goaltender Tanner Marshall made 47 saves. Chilliwack forward Tommy Lyons posted a goal and an assist. Cowichan Valley netminder Zach Borgiel kicked out 41 shots.
